The National's Matt Berninger and Andrew Bird have covered Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day' during a stripped-back living room set. The National recently debuted a new song live with the help of St Vincent at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre. St Vincent's Annie Clark joined the band to sing on 'Prom Song 13th Century (Frankie & Johnny)'. Earlier this summer, Andrew Bird began a series called Live From the Great Room, where he invites musicians to perform an acoustic set with him. John C. Reilly and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James have previously appeared on the show. This episode saw Bird welcome The National frontman, with the set opening up with 'Pink Rabbits', taken from the band's 'Trouble Will Find Me' album. The duo then performed Andrew Bird’s 'Heretics' and original Fiona Apple duet 'Left Handed Kisses' before finishing with a cover of Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day'. The National recently admitted their new album will be a huge departure from 2013’s ‘Trouble Will Find Me’. The band told NME they have gone electronic for their next record. “We’re playing together in a room, which means we’re jamming more,” explained frontman Matt Berninger. “But it’s not a jam record at all – the songs are much more like weird, math-y, electronic-y stuff.” He added: “A lot of songs are going in completely different directions. But that’s a really fun place to be. We’re in the middle of the wilderness, in a rainforest full of really fun noises.”

Stranger Things season two will be inspired by the cinema of 1984, as creators the Duffer brothers confirm that the show will be set a year after the events in the first season. Season Two of the hit Netflix show has not yet been confirmed but Netflix CEO Reed Hastings recently stated that the streaming service "would be dumb not to" recommission the series. Speaking to IGN, Matt and Ross Duffer said that the second season will "draw influence from a lot of [1984] cinema". "1984 was a f**king amazing year, especially the movies that came out in the summer of 1984," said Matt. Getty "It was an awesome year for cinema, so we're trying, hopefully, to capture a little bit of the magic of those films. Something like Temple of Doom," he continued. "I actually really love Temple of Doom, I love that it gets a little darker and weirder from Raiders." He explained that Temple of Doom "messed up a lot of kids" but that he loves that about the film – "that it really traumatised some children." He added, "not saying that we want to traumatise children, just that we want to get a little darker and weirder." Matt Duffer also said that season two is going to feel "very different", stating that he's "sure that a lot of people are going to prefer season one." "I think it's going to be a little darker, and a little weirder," he said. In terms of finishing the show completely, Matt explained that the brothers have an ending that they want to get to "in a believable way." "It's just us figuring out how many episodes and potential seasons we'd need to tell that story," he continued. "That's the goal and the hope, and it's really, really difficult. But hopefully we get there."

Florence And The Machine have released a new song titled 'Wish That You Were Here'. It features on the soundtrack for the upcoming Tim Burton movie Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Florence And The Machine recently shared three new songs taken from the soundtrack of the latest Final Fantasy game, which included a cover of Ben E King classic 'Stand By Me'. Speaking in a statement, Florence Welch said that she has "always been a huge fan of Tim Burton’s", sharing that they "have a very similar sensibility." Getty She continued, "It’s the kind of dark, dark romance of his work—so beautiful and whimsical, but with an element of darkness to it. That’s something that I always try and achieve in my work, too. I knew we would get along really well working together and we did." She explained that she feels as though they're "coming from a similar place of quite frantic imaginations trying to get the words out before the pictures in our heads disappear, before adding that Burton "feels like a kindred spirit." "I actually sent him a note about six years ago. I was in Australia on tour there for the first time and visited an exhibition of all his work," she continued. "I wanted to leave him a message and all I had on me was an x-ray of my hand, as I had just broken my finger. So I wrote on the x-ray and gave it to the gallery to pass on and never knew if he got it. When we met for the first time, he told me it’s been hanging up in his office ever since." 'Wish That You Were Here' is officially released on August 26, with the movie set for release on September 30. You can hear the song here.

A Britney Spears biopic has been confirmed to be in the works. US cable network Lifetime will produce the TV movie and Natasha Bassett (Hail, Caesar!) will reportedly play the singer. Lifetime, The Hollywood Reporter notes, described the two-hour movie as showing the "tumultuous true story" of Spears' career, from starting out as a teenager in Louisiana and her relationship with Justin Timberlake to her marriages and personal struggles. The star has not given the movie her approval, however. Entertainment Weekly reports that a representative for Spears told them she will not be contributing to it "in any way, shape or form… nor does it have her blessing." Spears' ninth album 'Glory' is released on Friday and she is set to appear on The Late Late Show With James Corden for Carpool Karaoke today (August 25). She will also perform at the MTV VMAs on Sunday.
