The X Factor will definitely return to ITV in 2017, the station has confirmed.
There were reports that the TV talent show could be rested or even dropped entirely with ITV's contract with the producers expiring this year, a continued drop in ratings and the fact that The Voice will arrive from the BBC next year.
However, as Digital Spy reports, a Syco spokesperson confirmed that the reality talent competition won't be taking any time off and a rep for ITV stated that they plan to extend the X Factor as well as Simon Cowell's other series, Britain's Got Talent.

"The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent contracts come up for renewal after the latest series air later this year, and we fully intend to continue with both shows into 2017 and beyond," said an ITV spokesperson.
Viewing figures for last year's X Factor were down on 2014 with just 8.4m tuning into the final, the second lowest figure in the ITV show's history.
Since launching in 2004, Simon Cowell's talent search has routinely attracted ratings over over 10m. However, the 2015 series struggled to pick up viewers and routinely scored lower figures than its Saturday night rival Strictly Come Dancing.
